Methodology

How this bill estimate is calculated

The calculator runs the same arithmetic NEPRA-notified tariffs use, but it is intentionally simpler than a real DISCO bill. We want a directional answer fast, not pretend-precision.

  • Base charges = units consumed × the slab rate for your consumer category (residential is two-tier: 1–300 units at the protected rate, 301+ at the unprotected rate).
  • Fuel Price Adjustment is applied as a flat per-unit add-on (currently ~Rs. 4.23/kWh). The real FPA is notified monthly and varies — we use a recent published value and update it as new notifications land.
  • Fixed charges are flat per-month amounts that depend on your sanctioned load and consumer category.
  • GST (17%) is applied on the post-FPA subtotal. Income tax (7.5%) is added only when your bill exceeds Rs. 25,000 — same threshold the DISCOs use.
  • Not included: TV fee, electricity duty, Quarterly Tariff Adjustments (QTA) for prior periods, late-payment surcharge, and any municipal/provincial taxes specific to your area. These can add 5–15% on top.
  • Solar offset assumes a 5 kW system at ~140 kWh/kW/month (mid-tier irradiance for Punjab/Sindh). Actual net-metering savings depend on DISCO settlement, shading, and tilt — treat the figure as an upper bound.

Last methodology review: Q2 2026 — refreshed when NEPRA issues a schedule-of-charges revision.

Frequently asked

Pakistan electricity bill FAQs

  • How do I calculate my electricity bill in Pakistan?
Your monthly bill is the sum of (units × applicable slab rate) + the quarterly fuel cost adjustment (per unit) + fixed charges + GST (17%) + income tax if your bill exceeds Rs. 25,000. Our calculator above applies these in order using current NEPRA-notified residential, commercial, and industrial rates.
  • What is fuel price adjustment (FPA) on my electricity bill?
Fuel Price Adjustment is a per-unit add-on that NEPRA notifies each month to recover the difference between the reference fuel cost baked into your tariff and the actual fuel cost Discos paid two months ago. It can be positive or negative and is the single biggest reason your monthly bill swings even when your usage doesn't.
  • Why is my actual bill different from this calculator?
Calculators give a directional estimate. Your actual bill can differ because of (a) the exact slab you fall into and protected vs unprotected status, (b) the FPA notified for that specific month, (c) Quarterly Tariff Adjustments (QTA) for prior periods, (d) TV fee, electricity duty, and other municipal charges, and (e) late-payment surcharge if applicable. Always treat the calculator as an estimate, not an invoice.
  • What is the current residential electricity unit rate in Pakistan?
Residential rates are slab-based. The most common protected slab (1–300 units/month) sits around Rs. 24.82 per unit; consumption beyond 300 units is billed at the unprotected rate of roughly Rs. 37.14 per unit. Both are before fuel adjustment, GST, and taxes. The exact rate for your bill is the one shown on the NEPRA notification effective on your billing date.
  • Does this calculator include net-metering / solar savings?
The bottom of the calculator shows a separate solar-offset estimate for a typical 5 kW rooftop system at roughly 140 kWh per installed kW per month. Real net-metering savings depend on roof orientation, shading, irradiance, and how your DISCO settles imported vs exported units — treat the figure as an illustrative ceiling.
  • Are these rates the same for K-Electric and the DISCOs?
Tariffs are uniform across the ex-WAPDA DISCOs by NEPRA decision, but K-Electric files separately and can run on a different schedule. Always check the rate table above for the date that matches your billing period.
